Why Have Newsstands Disappeared? Essay -- Culture

Old and rusty. A big box, it comes in different colors: green, black, and gray. The big box, with a man in it, overflows with merchandise varying from reading materials to fast snacks and soft drinks. Walking around New York City, one sees these big rusty boxes everywhere, or at least people used to. A quick stop for the many local and national newspapers, a refreshing brisk soft drink on a hot summer day, or even a candy bar and a pack of gum. It is a convenient place that one can just pass by and get what he or she needs without the hassle of a supermarket. If you stop by for the papers on your way to work or for a drink during your lunch break, usually a pleasant New York immigrant will greet you. The man in the box is generally delighted to assist you as fast as he can so that you can continue on your day without delay. New York City is fast-paced and the immigrants in the boxes try to maximize their service speed to accommodate New Yorkers’ requisites requests. At the sam e time, they are willing to have an interesting and elaborate conversation with you. Have you figured out what this place is? It is a newsstand. New York has had many newsstands for a very long time, and they have been a part of New Yorkers’ everyday lives. Its convenience adds to the experience of New York. You can find newsstands not only on the sidewalks of the city but also in its subway stations, where they are more of a man in a hole in the wall, instead of a man in a box. Those underground newsstands tend to offer a faster service and you can also have a shopping experience if they are a bit bigger. Since you are in a subway station, they tend to be speedy due to the hurry of train riders since trains come and go. Newsstands are distributers of infor... ...e historic monuments since they have been through most of the history of New York. Getting rid of such symbolic element of the city tarnishes the city’s image. Not only would take away a symbolic image of New York’s landscape but also represents New York’s movement towards a drab and uninspired city. Works Cited Berliner, David C. "Knowledge Is Power." Counrywide Financial

Countrywide Financial: The Subprime Meltdown 1. Are subprime loans an Unethical financial instrument, or are they ethical but misused in a way that created ethical issues? In my opinion I think subprime loans is an ethical in some ways but for the most part it’s got misused. One way that I think subprime was misused was the fact that when the economy began to slow down, people started working more and earning less money, subprime lending continued to lend to increasingly risky buyers.Another cause of misusing subprime lending was the fact that they allowed real estate appraisers to inflate the value of a home to insure loans would go through 2. Discuss the ethical issue that caused the downfall of countrywide Financial. One of the Ethical issue that cause the downfall of countrywide financial is the allegations that accused them of increasing its profit by offering subprime loans to people who qualified for regular loans.Another Ethical issue that caused countrywide financial to there downfall was the fact that they gave out liar loans. Liar loans were loans that required no proof of borrowers income or assets allowing consumers to purchase homes while having few or no assets. Many homeowners with liar loans could not pay their mortgages nor were they able to refinance their homes. 3. How should Bank of America deal with potential ethical and legal misconduct discovered at countrywide? One of the ways I think Bank of America should deal with potential ethical and legal misconduct is by dealing with all the lawsuits that have been filed against the company for dumping homeowners with predatory loan practices. Something else I think Bank of America should start doing is managing Countrywide’s debt by helping homeowners by reducing there interest rate so the foreclosure rate could get lower.

My Hidden Quality Is That I Enjoy Taking Care Of Newborns,...

Elvira Heidinger My hidden quality is that I enjoy taking care of newborns, toddlers or elderlies. Usually, I am a very introverted person and I need a long time to open up to people, but it is different if I am with somebody who needs the help. I have a very good connection to them right from the beginning. Taking care of newborns is something I really enjoy. It is my passion to prepare homemade babyfood and to try to stimulate their senses as much as I can in that early stage of their life. However, I also like to spend time with toddleres. I like to plan activities for them and give the opportunites to learn in a playful way. Children learn every day and it is important to me to give them as much possibilities to learn about the world as possible. It is very easy for me to explain things in their level of communication, and I enjoy to see things from their perspective. I read a lot of lecture about different children pedagogics and it is very fascinating to me how important the fi rst years of life are. If my friends would know about my hidden qualities it could enhance, but also damage the relationship with them. A lot of my friends have already children, who are in a young age. It would defentliy enhance the relationship to them, due to the fact that they would know that I am their if they need a babysitter. I also would be able to give them many ideas about what to do with children when they stuck at home because of bad weather or how to handly bad situations. They have noticed apostles, prophets, teachers, miracles, gifts of healings, tongues and interpretation. But when it comes to helps and governments, many people say, â€Å"I must have blinked and missed that one.† They blinked because â€Å"helps† didn’t sound very important. But God has set the ministry of helps into the Church. You as an usher in your church, fall within the ministry of helps category.
